Outdoors & Recreation
Lake Shabbona is one of the most beautiful state parks in Illinois. It’s known as the “Muskie Capital of Illinois” and has year-round activities that are as varied as the landscape. Rent a boat, dine at Pokanoes on the water, hike, fish, swim or just kick back and enjoy the scenery. Go for a run in a local park or register for a 5k or 10k event.
Winter time activities include cross country skiing, tobogganing, festivals, skating and more. Our county forest preserves offer wide open spaces to explore and enjoy with fun actives like star gazing or taping trees for maple syrup. From grassland to farm land, we have it all.
Bikers will enjoy the endless trails. The Great Western Trail is more than 17 miles long and a favorite for cyclists. If you want to hit the links, we have that too.
Sports enthusiasts can enjoy Division 1 NCAA football at Huskie Stadium and many other sporting events at Northern Illinois University and Kishwaukee College.
Not only does DeKalb County have diverse options for outdoor activities, but also indoor recreation options as well! We have fun for all!
