Knute Olson, Jr. Forest Preserve

Donated to the District by Knute Olson, Jr., this former gravel quarry site features a floodplain forest and an upland forest. Some former quarry spoils mounds are still visible, and are vegetated now with mostly native plants. Along the trails, two former gravel pits are now fish ponds where turtles sun themselves on bright summer days. The South Branch of the Kishwaukee River runs along the west edge of the site. It is a good spot for Smallmouth Bass and Northern Pike fishing. Knute Olson Forest Preserve trails connect to Riverwood Forest Preserve to offer miles of hiking through prairie and oak savannah restoration areas along the South Branch of the Kishwaukee River.26 acre forest preserve with Handicap Access, Canoeing, Cross Country Skiing, Fishing, Hiking (paved & grass trails), Open Play Fields, Picnic Areas, Open Air Shelters,  Water and Restrooms.
