Russell Woods Forest Preserve
Russell Woods Forest Preserve is a 126-acre preserve open since 1942, offering a wide range of recreational and educational opportunities. Visitors can enjoy hiking on 2½ miles of trails, canoeing, fishing, cross-country skiing, sledding, playgrounds, open play fields, picnic areas, and enclosed or open shelters. The Natural Resources Education Center, staffed by University of Illinois Extension educators, serves over 5,000 children and adults annually with on-site programs, classroom visits, and field trips. The preserve’s diverse upland and lowland habitats, rich aquatic life, and native species make it a unique environmental resource. Trails connect to the G2K Trail from Carroll Park in Genoa to Kingston, enhancing hiking and exploration options. Handicap accessible facilities and restrooms ensure a welcoming visit for all.
