Blumen Gardens
Greeted by the owners upon arrival at Blumen Gardens, with time afterward to stroll through the gardens and browse the shops at their leisure. Once a site of multiple factories—including the Marsh Harvester (1869) and a railroad weigh station—the historic property was lovingly transformed by Joan and Joel into a 4.5-acre destination. Their dream business now features a perennial nursery, a home and garden décor retail shop, an event space for weddings and gatherings, and a design studio and shop—blending history, charm, and creativity in a beautifully reimagined setting.
Ellwood House
Begin your visit to the Ellwood House Museum with a warm welcome and guided tour, followed by time to explore the beautiful outdoor gardens at your leisure. Located on ten acres of parkland in the heart of DeKalb, Illinois, the museum campus features seven historic structures—including the 1879 Ellwood Mansion and 1900 Ellcourt House—along with four gardens and 6,000 square feet of exhibits in the Patience Ellwood Towle Visitor Center, a converted 1912 multi-car garage. Once home to barbed wire entrepreneur Isaac Ellwood and his family, the mansion offers a fascinating glimpse into over eight decades of Ellwood history.
