African American Oral History Project

November 3, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

November’s Brown Bag/Local Lore program heads back to the Ellwood House Museum. Dr. Stanley Arnold and Drew VandeCreek will discuss the African American Oral History project. This talk, sponsored by the DeKalb County History Center and Ellwood House Museum, will be on Thursday, November 3 at 12:00.

The Northern Illinois University African American Oral History Project in partnership with the DeKalb County History Center collects oral history interviews with African American members of the university community (including alumni and retired faculty and staff) and African American residents of DeKalb County in a video or sound format. To date the project consists of twenty-three interviews. University Libraries faculty and staff members post them, accompanied by transcripts, to a web site integrated into the Northern Illinois University Digital Library (https://digital.lib.niu.edu/). The project is a result of a partnership between the University Libraries, the NIU Department of History, and the NIU Center for Black Studies.
