Hoppe Heritage Farmstead / South Branch Prairie – Kingston

This 60-acre site in Kingston, Illinois, home to the Hoppe family for over 140 years, now features the relocated and reconstructed 1845 Miller-Elwood log cabin, a significant artifact of the county’s early settlers. Adjacent to the site, the South Branch Prairie boasts five native plant communities and the South Branch of the Kishwaukee River, recognized nationally for its high-quality wetland restoration. The prairie attracts rare birds like Sandhill Cranes and Bald Eagles and connects to Russell Woods Forest Preserve as part of the Genoa to Kingston Trail.
