DeKalb County offers several events to honor and support the veterans in our community and in your life. See 2024 Veterans Day Events below:
“A Picture Exhibit of African American Patriots” on display starting Nov. 11 at several locations in DeKalb County. The traveling display is part of a project out of Chicago-based RTW Veterans Center.
November dates for the display include Nov. 11 at DeKalb First United Methodist Church, 2501 N. Annie Glidden Road; Nov. 13, 14 and 15 at DeKalb Public Library, 309 Oak St.; Nov. 20 at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb; and Nov. 25, 26 and 27 at Sycamore Public Library, 103 E. State St.
6AM: Free Veterans Breakfast at Hy-Vee, 2700 DeKalb Ave., with a program at 9 a.m.
11AM: Kirkland Veterans Day Ceremony at the Northern Illinois Veteran’s Memorial in the Franklin Township Park.
11AM: DeKalb Veterans Day Ceremony in front of the World War I Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Clock in Memorial Park at the corner of First Street and Lincoln Highway. Featuring the national anthem and local veteran speakers.
11AM-1PM: Veterans Day Luncheon to celebrate veterans at NIU and the community at Altgeld Hall, 595 College Ave., DeKalb.
12PM: Kishwaukee College Veterans Day Ceremony inside the student center on campus, 21193 Malta Road, Malta. Featuring a performance by the DeKalb High School Jazz Band, and guest speaker Ezekiel Mora, a veteran, nurse practitioner and Kishwaukee College Alumnus who will recognize veterans in the audience. Free to attend.
4PM: DeKalb and Sycamore Elks Lodges Veterans Day Dinner for local veterans at Lincoln Inn at Faranda’s, 302 Grove St., DeKalb. Dinner is free for veterans. Others can purchase a meal for $18. Includes roast pork with dressing, gravy, sweet corn, and mashed potatoes.
