5:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Exactly one-hundred years ago, on January 17, 1920, Americans woke up as participants in a sweeping social experiment: overnight, the Volstead Act had gone into effect, ushering in thirteen tumultuous years of Prohibition in the United States.

On April 25, 2020, join the Ellwood House in commemorating the historic era with a brand-new ticketed event for adults – “Against the Grain: A Speakeasy Challenge.”
From 5pm-9pm, solve Prohibition-themed puzzles on the first floor of the Ellwood mansion to reveal a secret password and gain entry to a basement-level speakeasy. Once you’re in, enjoy live entertainment by Dimensions Dance Academy and more as you sip authentic cocktails, mixed by Whiskey Acres Distilling Co., based on the hidden ingredients found in Perry Ellwood’s rumored Prohibition cellar.

Tickets are limited to 100 participants and must be purchased in advance at against-the-grain.eventbrite.com. Tickets are $30 each, including one free drink, or discounted to $25 for museum members and college students with valid ID; contact king@ellwoodhouse.org for details.

The Ellwood House Museum is located at 509 N. First Street in DeKalb.
