Tour the garden\, taste veggies and herbs\, and volunteer in the DeKalb County Community Gardens/Northwestern Medicine Garden assisting with: Watering plants Seeding and planting veggies Harvesting for DCCG Distribution Weeding The garden is a 1.5-acre growing space at 2475 Bethany Road in Sycamore\, a community garden space managed by DeKalb County Community Gardens. In 2023\, over 2\,000lbs. of fresh produce were harvested for DCCG distribution. The vegetables we harvest are shared with neighbors throughout the entire county. This program is open to all ages. No registration is required. Please wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty\, and close-toed shoes.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 3rd\, The Aruna Run/Walk will return for a second year to the streets and pathways of DeKalb. The event will support the work of The Aruna Project\, an international human rights non-profit dedicated to freeing\, employing\, and empowering victims of human sex trafficking. Last year’s inaugural run in DeKalb raised over $30\,000 in funds which contributed to the medical care\, counseling\, transitional housing\, and workforce preparation of five survivors. \nLOCATION: Christ Community Church (2350 Pride Ave.) in DeKalb. \nPARKING: Parking for the event will be available at nearby DeKalb High School (501 W. Dresser Rd.) & Katz Park (393 W. Dresser Rd). \nEVENTS: 1 Mile (8:30 AM start time) & 5K (9:00 start time) \nCOST: The adult registration fee for either distance is $40 through July 28th. The registration fee for the Kids’ 1 Mile course is $25. Registration for both events will remain open through the races’ start times\, however\, a $5 late entry fee will apply to all adult registrations submitted after July 28th. \nREGISTRATION INFO: Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this flat\, paved\, stroller-friendly\, chip-timed course. DESCRIPTION:Jazz in Progress joins the DeKalb Public Library for an after-hours concert that will feature different styles of big band and modern jazz music in the library’s main lobby! \nJazz in Progress (JIP) organized in 2012 to encourage local musicians to play jazz in support of its mission of musical\, charitable\, and educational purposes to advance the appreciation\, performance\, and history of jazz music and its related genres. Its membership includes a variety of talented musicians from the DeKalb County area. The ensemble also honors the practice of inviting local high school and college jazz musicians to sit in with the band\, giving young musicians an opportunity to gain more experience in playing jazz music. \nJIP is an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that puts funds raised back into local community music programs. Past recipients of JIP donations include the DeKalb\, Genoa-Kingston\, Hinckley-Big Rock\, Indian Creek and Sycamore music booster organizations\, as well as St. Mary’s-DeKalb and the DeKalb County Community Foundation. \nJIP has performed at benefit and fund raising events and venues around the area including the St. Mary’s Lancer Legacy Ball\, Sycamore Natural History Museum’s Rockin’ for the Reptiles\, Stage Coach Theatre\, Sycamore Farmers Market\, Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital\, Artigras\, The House Café\, and Oak Crest Senior Proms. From 3-5 pm\, the DeKalb Park District has a variety of activities lined up for you\, including mini boat races\, crafts\, sports games\, and\, of course\, water activities. Join them and explore our different parks! \n\n\n\nMonday\, July 15- Lions Park: Tie-Dye Day! Bring your own white shirt\, and the DeKalb Park District will provide the rest.  Thursday\, July 18 – McCormick ParkMonday\, July 29 – Lions ParkWednesday\, July 31 – Katz Park: Mini-boat races!
