DESCRIPTION:Story time will be held on the lawn of the Glidden Homestead\, 921 W. Lincoln Highway (next to Glidden Florist)\, and will be moved indoors if inclement weather. These programs are held monthly at 1 pm on the first Sunday of each month\, starting on May 4. \n\n\n\nThese interactive story times for children may feature songs\, movement and more. This event is free. No registration is required. \n\n\n\nAnnie’s Story Time is named for Joseph F. Glidden’s niece\, Annie Glidden\, who was a major promoter of DeKalb’s cultural and social causes during her lifetime. In 1898\, seeing the need to supply the recently formed DeKalb Public Library with good books\, Annie formed the Library Whist Club. On Monday afternoons\, this group of women came together to play the card game whist. Monies from their membership dues were used for library book purchases. To date\, the library has received over 10\,000 volumes from their activities.

DESCRIPTION:The DeKalb Township will host an AARP Safe Driver Course at their facility on July 9th & 10th. This 8-hour AARP Smart Driver course (split into 2 four-hour days) teaches valuable defensive driving strategies and provides a refresher of the rules of the road. Participants may also qualify for a multi-year automobile insurance discount by completing the course. Space is limited and attendees must pre-register for the course by calling the DeKalb Township at 815-758-8282. The classroom course costs $20 for AARP Members and $25 for non-members. Financial Assistance is available to qualifying DeKalb Township residents who are unable to pay the course fee.
