SUMMARY:Hinckley Concert Series
DESCRIPTION:The Hinckley Historical Society invites the public to its summer band concert series at the Hinckley Community Building Park. The free concerts from 6 to 8 p.m. feature a variety of music in a Ravinia Style setting at 100 N Maple Street\, Hinckley. Bring your lawn chair\, snacks\, and enjoy the small town atmosphere. \n\n\n\nOn Wednesday June 12\, the NIU Steelband will provide a variety of music styles featuring the steelpan\, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. The concert will present music from the Caribbean that will relax and soothe the sole. \n\n\n\nOn Thursday June 27\, Shade Tree Music Company will perform country\, pop\, rock and patriotic music. The popular local group plays favorite tunes from various decades and will put you in the mood to celebrate our country’s birthday. The Hinckley Festival and Fireworks is planned for Saturday June 29. \n\n\n\nOn Tuesday July 16\, Ed Wagner’s German Brass Band will entertain with polkas and waltzes from their repertoire of over 600 German\, Austrian\, and Czech music. The 8-piece group is the only authentic German Polka band in the Chicagoland area. \n\n\n\nThe series ends on Thursday August 15\, when Gavin Coyle’s Irish Band entertains with traditional songs from Ireland and American Irish favorites. Gavin\, a native of Derry\, Northern Ireland\, will captivate with his stories\, songs\, and instruments. \n\n\n\nThe Hinckley Historical Society concerts are meant to recall a time in our history when the community gathered to relax\, enjoy free musical entertainment\, and celebrate their successes. The concerts are made possible by grants from the Farny R. DESCRIPTION:What has led to the Egyptian Theatre being known as one of the most haunted buildings in town and in the top ten haunted theatres in Illinois? Join the Theatre staff as they share all the secrets and stories with a ‘balcony to backstage’ tour that focuses not only on the history of the building that opened in 1929 but also all of the Theatre’s ghostly guests. \n\n\n\nThis tour\, which is in the dark using only your flashlights\, starts in our lobby and will include climbing stairs and extended periods of standing. Doors open 30 min prior to the tour beginning. Be sure to grab a drink from the concession stand to make it a truly spirited evening! \n\n\n\nTour Ticket Price – $30 \n\n\n\nEveryone must bring a flashlight for the tour.  10 and older allowed but minors must be accompanied by an adult. \n\n\n\nThis evening tour will last approximately 2 hours and the tickets are limited\, so don’t wait!  The tour involves many stairs and no elevator is available.

DESCRIPTION:Experience the healing and wellness-promoting effects of forest therapy\, the practice of immersing the senses in the atmosphere of the forest. This 90-minute introductory session will be held at P.A Nehring Forest Preserve at 380 Bethany Rd. in DeKalb. \nCertified Forest Therapy Guide Beth Hanson of Adventure Works will lead this mindful walk and help you awaken your senses and connect with nature. No two walks are the same! \nRegistration is required\, as space is limited. This program is open to ages 16 and up. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing and shoes\, bring a water bottle\, and wear sunscreen and bug spray if you require them. There are no restrooms on site\, so please plan accordingly. You may also bring a small camp chair if you wish\, as there will be some quiet time to sit during the walk. \nIn case of inclement weather\, we will post a cancellation announcement on social media and email all registered participants. \nThis program is made possible through a partnership with the DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board. DESCRIPTION:Jazz in Progress will perform their annual free summer Swingin’ the Bandshell concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday\, August 27th at the Dee Palmer Bandshell in Hopkins Park\, 1403 Sycamore Rd.\, DeKalb\, IL. \nMaking music together in the area for over 11 years\, the 18-piece community jazz band will play a variety of music including classic jazz standards\, Swing-era\, funk from the 1960s and ‘70s\, as well as other favorites. The band will also feature a number of vocal and instrumental soloists from within the members of the ensemble. \nJazz in Progress was formed for musical\, charitable\, and educational purposes to support its mission to advance the appreciation\, performance\, and history of jazz music and its related genres. DESCRIPTION:The Twangtown Paramours are a national touring\, award-winning husband and wife duo and band from Nashville. Their music is a blend of Nashville\, New York\, and Austin influences and has been called “Soulful Americana”. Join the DeKalb Public Library in the main lobby as they welcome this band for the first time to perform an after-hours concert! \nSome of the Twangtown Paramours’ tunes are poetic\, but many are just a whole lot of fun. Recently\, other artists have begun recording their songs. They are 3-time Kerrville New Folk finalists and winners of the Wildflower Contest in Richardson\, TX. Their newest full band album\, “Double Down on a Bad Thing” was #11 on the U.K Indie Blues chart last year and #18 on the U.S. RMR Contemporary Blues chart. \nMaryBeth sang background vocals for the late Eva Cassidy. Mike is a session musician\, songwriter\, and producer\, and is the author of a #1 platinum selling pop ballad in Korea.
