SUMMARY:Forest Therapy Walk
DESCRIPTION:Experience the healing and wellness-promoting effects of forest therapy\, the practice of immersing the senses in the atmosphere of the forest. This 90-minute introductory session will be held at P.A Nehring Forest Preserve at 380 Bethany Rd. in DeKalb. \nCertified Forest Therapy Guide Beth Hanson of Peace in Nature Forest Therapy will lead this mindful walk and help you awaken your senses and connect with nature. No two walks are the same! \nRegistration is required\, as space is limited. This program is open to ages 16 and up. \nPlease wear comfortable clothing and shoes\, bring a water bottle\, and wear sunscreen and bug spray if you require them. There are no restrooms on site\, so please plan accordingly. You may also bring a small camp chair if you wish\, as there will be some quiet time to sit during the walk. \nIn case of inclement weather\, we will post a cancellation announcement on social media and email all registered participants. \nThis program is made possible through a partnership with the DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board. Through leadership and funding\, the DeKalb County Community Mental Health Board supports access to high-quality behavioral healthcare services for the residents of DeKalb County. \nThis program is also sponsored in part by the Rick Johns Memorial Fund. \nFor additional information or help with registration\, please contact Chelsea at chelsear@dkpl.org or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 1700.

DESCRIPTION:The DeKalb Township will host an AARP Safe Driver Course at their facility on May 6th & 7th. This 8-hour AARP Smart Driver course (split into 2 four-hour days) teaches valuable defensive driving strategies and provides a refresher of the rules of the road. Participants may also qualify for a multi-year automobile insurance discount by completing the course. Space is limited and attendees must pre-register for the course by calling the DeKalb Township at 815-758-8282. The classroom course costs $20 for AARP Members and $25 for non-members. Financial Assistance is available to qualifying DeKalb Township residents who are unable to pay the course fee. SUMMARY:Annie's Story Time
DESCRIPTION:Story time will be held on the lawn of the Glidden Homestead\, 921 W. Lincoln Highway (next to Glidden Florist)\, and will be moved indoors if inclement weather. These programs are held monthly at 1 pm on the first Sunday of each month\, starting on May 4. \n\n\n\nThese interactive story times for children may feature songs\, movement and more. This event is free. No registration is required. \n\n\n\nAnnie’s Story Time is named for Joseph F. Glidden’s niece\, Annie Glidden\, who was a major promoter of DeKalb’s cultural and social causes during her lifetime. In 1898\, seeing the need to supply the recently formed DeKalb Public Library with good books\, Annie formed the Library Whist Club. On Monday afternoons\, this group of women came together to play the card game whist. Monies from their membership dues were used for library book purchases. To date\, the library has received over 10\,000 volumes from their activities.
