DESCRIPTION:Duo Dahlia combines the timeless instruments of flute and harp to bring audiences a rich aural soundscape of beautiful and unique timbres. Join the DeKalb Public Library in the library’s main lobby as they perform music from the Baroque\, Classical\, Romantic\, and 20th century eras\, and promote works by living composers. \nBased in the Chicagoland area\, Duo Dahlia has performed in various chamber recitals and competitions\, including performances affiliated with Epiphany Center for the Arts\, Northern Illinois University and Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra. Each performance brings together the diverse solo careers of the members with historically informed performance practices. \nGianna Capobianco is a freelance flutist and teacher based in the Greater Chicagoland Area. She has a wide range of performing experience and has played in masterclasses for renowned flutists such as Jennifer Gunn\, Bonnie Boyd\, Marie Tachouet and Jennie Oh Brown. \nAbigail Stoner is a concert harpist and pianist in the Chicagoland area. DESCRIPTION:Barn tours every half hour starting at noonHouse Tours at 12:30 and 2:30 PMCrafts for children providedBlacksmithing demos all day \n\n\n\nFrom noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday\, June 22\, the Joseph F. Glidden Homestead and Historical Center’s Open Barn Day will give visitors a unique chance to see the inside of the historic barn where “The Winner” barbed wire was invented and initially manufactured. \n\n\n\nAdmission is $5 for adults; children younger than 14 and homestead members are admitted free. \n\n\n\nThe barn\, located at 921 W. Lincoln Highway in DeKalb\, is perhaps the most historically significant in the country\, according to historic preservationist Roger Keys\, because it is where Glidden invented and manufactured the first practical barbed wire. Keys\, who has done much work on the Homestead house and barn\, will give tours every half hour starting at noon. \n\n\n\nThe brick barn was built circa 1870. Glidden’s first barbed wire manufacturing office was located in the southeast corner of the barn. \n\n\n\nThe Phineas Vaughan Blacksmith Shop at the Glidden Homestead also will be open and operating that day. Volunteer blacksmiths will provide a glimpse into living-history as they provide demonstrations of the craft. The historic Glidden home will also be open for docent-led tours starting at 12:30 and 2:30 pm. There will be a farm animal craft available for children. \n\n\n\nThe Joseph F. Glidden Homestead and Historical Center is a not-for-profit organization working to preserve the home and barn\, while providing educational opportunities to the public. A beautiful mosaic mural was recently added to its downtown with the design and instruction of artist\, Danielle Casali. The mural showcases pieces of the farming town’s history and comes together with a quote in the middle: “… and a good time was had by all.” With the mural in mind\, the annual Hinckley Fireworks Festival has been rebranded as the Good Time for All Festival. The festival would not be possible without donations\, supporters\, and volunteers. \n\n\n\nLocated under 30 minutes from the DeKalb\, Elburn\, Aurora\, Yorkville\, and Batavia areas\, we hope you will make your way to Hinckley on June 28th for a good time!

DESCRIPTION:The Celebration Chorale invites you to attend its annual patriotic cantata\, Homeland\, with two performances scheduled for Saturday\, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday\, June 29 at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at First United Methodist Church\, located at 2501 North Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. \nHomeland is a moving musical tribute to the nation\, celebrating the spirit of America as both a place and a people. The cantata will be accompanied by the Celebration Chorale Orchestra. A cherished tradition within the program is the Salute to the Armed Forces\, honoring members and veterans of the United States military. \nDirected by Christine Monteiro\, the Celebration Chorale is composed of musicians from across the region\, representing over 10 area communities and more than nine church denominations. The ensemble brings together both professional and amateur vocalists\, including long-time members and newcomers alike. \nThere is no admission fee for the performances\, but a free-will offering will be collected.
