DESCRIPTION:The DeKalb County History Center is inviting individuals\, families\, community groups\, and local organizations to participate in a Day of Service during National Volunteer Week on Saturday\, April 25\, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will help prepare the History Center campus for the busy spring and summer season. \n\n\n\nThis hands-on volunteer opportunity will focus on sprucing up the grounds and pathways throughout the campus. Tasks will include spreading mulch\, general spring clean-up\, placing and filling raised garden beds\, clearing rocks\, and\, weather permitting\, planting flowers and greenery to keep the campus welcoming for visitors and programs. \n\n\n\nNo special experience is needed to participate. Volunteers are asked to bring a pair of gloves\, and History Center staff along with Master Gardener Cathy Anderson will provide guidance and instructions for each task. The work is designed to be approachable\, family-friendly\, and rewarding\, making it a great opportunity for groups and individuals alike.

In 2023\, over 2\,000lbs. of fresh produce were harvested for DCCG distribution. The vegetables we harvest are shared with neighbors throughout the entire county. This program is open to all ages. No registration is required. Please wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty\, and close-toed shoes.

SUMMARY:2nd Annual "For Her Freedom" Aruna Fun Run/Walk (5K & 1 Mile)
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, August 3rd\, The Aruna Run/Walk will return for a second year to the streets and pathways of DeKalb. The event will support the work of The Aruna Project\, an international human rights non-profit dedicated to freeing\, employing\, and empowering victims of human sex trafficking. Last year’s inaugural run in DeKalb raised over $30\,000 in funds which contributed to the medical care\, counseling\, transitional housing\, and workforce preparation of five survivors. \nLOCATION: Christ Community Church (2350 Pride Ave.) in DeKalb. \nPARKING: Parking for the event will be available at nearby DeKalb High School (501 W. Dresser Rd.) & Katz Park (393 W. Dresser Rd). \nEVENTS: 1 Mile (8:30 AM start time) & 5K (9:00 start time) \nCOST: The adult registration fee for either distance is $40 through July 28th. The registration fee for the Kids’ 1 Mile course is $25. Registration for both events will remain open through the races’ start times\, however\, a $5 late entry fee will apply to all adult registrations submitted after July 28th. \nREGISTRATION INFO: Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this flat\, paved\, stroller-friendly\, chip-timed course.
