SUMMARY:Celebration Chorale Patriotic Cantata
DESCRIPTION:The Celebration Chorale invites you to attend its annual patriotic cantata\, Homeland\, with two performances scheduled for Saturday\, June 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday\, June 29 at 3:00 p.m. The event will take place at First United Methodist Church\, located at 2501 North Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb. \nHomeland is a moving musical tribute to the nation\, celebrating the spirit of America as both a place and a people. The cantata will be accompanied by the Celebration Chorale Orchestra. A cherished tradition within the program is the Salute to the Armed Forces\, honoring members and veterans of the United States military. \nDirected by Christine Monteiro\, the Celebration Chorale is composed of musicians from across the region\, representing over 10 area communities and more than nine church denominations. The ensemble brings together both professional and amateur vocalists\, including long-time members and newcomers alike. \nThere is no admission fee for the performances\, but a free-will offering will be collected. DESCRIPTION:Jazz in Progress\, DeKalb County’s premier nonprofit community jazz ensemble\, invites the public to kick off the July 4th holiday week with a dynamic and high-energy concert experience. Titled “A Patriotic/Contemporary/Funk/Rock Explosion\,” the free live performance will take place on Tuesday\, July 1\, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dee Palmer Band Shell in Hopkins Park\, located at 1403 Sycamore Road\, DeKalb. \nThis one-of-a-kind concert promises to blend the soul of America’s musical heritage with the power of classic funk grooves and the thrill of rock and contemporary jazz. The band will showcase an exciting setlist packed with vibrant selections from the 1960s and ‘70s funk era\, as well as patriotic tributes and modern jazz favorites. Audiences can also look forward to captivating instrumental and vocal solo performances by talented members of the ensemble. \n“This concert is more than just a musical event—it’s a celebration of community\, freedom\, and the diverse sounds that have defined American music\,” said Jazz in Progress board members. “We’re inviting everyone to bring a blanket or lawn chair\, enjoy a beautiful evening outdoors\, and get energized for the holiday week ahead.” \nJazz in Progress is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to support and enrich local music education and performance opportunities throughout DeKalb County. Proceeds and donations from their performances benefit numerous area schools and programs\, including the music departments of DeKalb\, Sycamore\, Genoa-Kingston\, Hinckley-Big Rock\, Indian Creek\, Sandwich\, Somonauk\, Earlville\, and Leland school districts; St. Mary’s School in DeKalb; and the DeKalb County Community Foundation. \nThe event is open to all ages and free to attend. Locally\, she is known for performing live at area events\, as well as for producing her own series of Facebook and Instagram Live Quarantine Concerts\, leading to a feature story on Chicago’s WGN news.
