SUMMARY:Exhibition Opening Reception for "How We Rebuild"
DESCRIPTION:Join the Pick Museum of Anthropology for the opening reception of the exhibition “How We Rebuild.” Opening remarks will begin at 4:30 p.m. \nAfter conflicts have ended\, what does it take to recover the heartbeat of humanity? This penetrating and transformative photography exhibition draws from 12 years of work created by grant winners and finalists from The Aftermath Project\, a nonprofit organization committed to telling the other half of war stories\, after the conflicts have ended—what it takes for individuals to rebuild destroyed lives and homes\, to restore civil societies and to address the lingering wounds of war while struggling to create new avenues for peace. This exhibition is a program of ExhibitsUSA\, a national division of Mid-America Arts Alliance and The National Endowment for the Arts. \nImage credit: Sara Terry\, “Goldfish for sale…” \, Capljina\, Bosnia\, March 30\, 2004; digital print on aluminum\, 14 7/16 x 22 inches; Courtesy of the artist.

SUMMARY:Sustainability Swap
DESCRIPTION:It’s important to be responsible consumers and consider sustainability when we need new things. This Sustainability Swap\, monthly on the first Thursdays\, allows you to trade in your lightly used clothing for someone else’s\, as well as swap houseplants you might not want to care for. The houseplant portion of the swap is sponsored by Willrett Flower Company. \nFreshly washed clothing in adult sizes can be dropped off at the reference desk one week before the program. You’ll receive a ticket for every item you bring\, capped at 20 tickets. Bring your tickets to the program and spend them on new-to-you clothes! \nHouseplants of all kinds are welcome\, but please only bring pots that you are willing to part with. You do not need to drop your plants off in advance. This is a perfect opportunity to divide those overgrown houseplants and share tips with other plant lovers. No tickets are needed for plants. \nNo registration is required for this program. It is intended for adults. \nFor additional information\, please contact Amy at amyf@dkpl.org or at (815) 756-9568 ext. 2150.
