DESCRIPTION:Looking to lend a helping hand? DeKalb County Community Gardens needs your help in the garden! Exercise your green thumb by helping the community. Tour the garden\, taste veggies and herbs\, and volunteer in the DeKalb County Community Gardens/Northwestern Medicine Garden assisting with: Watering plants Seeding and planting veggies Harvesting for DCCG Distribution Weeding The garden is a 1.5-acre growing space at 2475 Bethany Road in Sycamore\, a community garden space managed by DeKalb County Community Gardens. In 2023\, over 2\,000lbs. of fresh produce were harvested for DCCG distribution. The vegetables we harvest are shared with neighbors throughout the entire county. This program is open to all ages. No registration is required. Please wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty\, and close-toed shoes.

Watch the Sandwich and surrounding community groups and businesses take the opportunity to celebrate. The parade will step off at 10 am. \n\n\n\nParade Route – 10 am sharp: \n\n\n\nLisbon St. to Ash St.; turn right… \n\n\n\nSouth to Center St.; turn left \n\n\n\nEast to Main St.; turn left \n\n\n\nNorth to Lisbon St. – west to the fairgrounds \n\n\n\nFireworks Display – start at dark: \n\n\n\nThe Sandwich Park District is pleased to present the annual fireworks display located at the Sandwich Fairgrounds. Food trucks and vendors will be onsite. Bring your blankets and chairs and save your spot for a great night of family fun for all ages to enjoy. Festivities include live entertainment\, music\, food\, games\, and fireworks. The fairgrounds open at 3:00 pm. Admission is $10 per vehicle CASH ONLY .

Locally\, she is known for performing live at area events\, as well as for producing her own series of Facebook and Instagram Live Quarantine Concerts\, leading to a feature story on Chicago’s WGN news. In addition\, Katie has performed the National Anthem before a Chicago White Sox game in 2021 and 2022. \n\n\n\nThis concert is free and open to all. No registration is required.

Glidden’s “The Winner” barbed wire patent approaches\, there are opportunities to learn more about the prosperity and innovation that barbed wire brought to DeKalb\, earning it the nickname “Barb City.” \n\n\n\nAt 3 p.m. on Saturday\, July 6\, the Glidden Homestead and DeKalb Public Library will host a “Built by Barbed Wire” program at the library\, 309 Oak Street. This program\, which is free and open to the public\, will share the history of the building that was donated by barbed wire baron Jacob Haish. \n\n\n\nJessi Haish LaRue\, Glidden Homestead executive director\, will provide remarks on the barbed wire story in DeKalb and Jacob Haish’s gift to the community. Then\, Emily Faulkner\, DeKalb Public Library executive director\, will provide a tour and “behind the scenes” view of both the original portion and the “new” portion of the library. Highlights include various historic plaques\, nods to the original architecture\, and new additions\, including the automated book sorter.
