Wooden Box Theater Live at Ellington’s NIU

Saturday, April 6, 2019

6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Ellington’s Restaurant inside the Holmes Student Center will be the setting for an event by area performance group Wooden Box Theater, as they showcase a night that will display local theatrical performers, themed fashion walks, featured vendors, special guest appearances, and live music with their production of “She’s My Kind of Rain.” The event takes it’s name from the 2002 Tim McGraw song of the same name, and was inspired by scenes from the movie, “Star Trek : The Motion Picture.” It will be co-hosted in various segments by Heather Dempsey, “Miss Yorkville” Jordan Weeks, Ewelina Rafael of Wheatland Realty, tattoo model Nichole Creasy, Laurie Rouse, Crystal Lynn, published author Heidi Morgan, and Alicia Crosby

“She’s My Kind of Rain” will feature live musical performances by Kelsey Montanez, Jennifer Toschak of the band Morsel, Bill Leighly, Joel La Vaughn, Tee Jay Kay, Desmond Green, and Shelbie Jo. It will also feature a special guest starring appearance by Stephanie Kifowit, the Illinois state representative for the 84th district in her first Wooden Box Theater event. The event features supporting appearances throughout by Christopher Dempsey, Meghan Miller, Kelly Yoder, Jaysen Curran, Vanessa Staron, Stephanie Clark, Dana Goutos, Marlain Smith, Jessica Perez Powell and Sarah Burks.

Area vendors that will be making appearances during the event include Scentsy Consultant Jaime Bednarz who will have samples and order information for audience members, Abbey Hartwig of the Doodle Spirit candle company, Laura Leuder-Santowski of Defining Creations, Heather & Matthew Rainey of Rent a Chef, and Noreen Norcross of Prana Yoga Geneva. Each will have their own table for displays and available for conversations with audience members, and featured in the production itself.

“She’s My Kind of Rain,” carries a running theme of new beginnings for Wooden Box Theater. It is the second of the group’s “New Frontier” 2 Part Mini-Series, which began with their Valentine’s Night performance at NIU’s Capitol Room South. The group is set to debut many new ongoing members to it’s core lineup, who will be making their debut on April 6th.
