Ellwood House Membership Drive & Exceptional Artifacts Display
Sunday, March 5, 2017
On Sunday, March 5 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM a unique program will be offered inside the Ellwood Mansion. A number of exceptional artifacts from the museum collections – rarely seen by the public – will be on display at seven stations within the historic building. A knowledgeable guide will talk about each artifact and weave a story through background documentation, photographs, and diary entries. The program is open to all Ellwood House members as well as those interested in becoming members.
Among the highlighted objects is a set of blueprints documenting changes made to the home’s kitchen, which was converted into an apartment for a live-in caretaker in the 1940s. A staff member will be stationed in the room, which is not normally accessible on the public tour, to show details of the plans and indicate where changes were made over time. Some of the other objects to be displayed include Ellwood family photo albums, uniforms worn by Ellwood House servants in the early twentieth century, and cylinder records for an Edison Standard Phonograph. Refreshments will be available at the Visitor Center. Admittance to the mansion will end at 4:30 PM.
Membership in the Ellwood House Association is open to anyone. Memberships can be purchased online at www.ellwoodhouse.org, by phone at 815-756-4609, or in-person at the Ellwood House Visitor Center. All members enjoy a full year of exclusive benefits including free tour admission, admission to the museum’s annual holiday event, invitations to special programs, a subscription to the museum’s quarterly newsletter, and a 10% discount in the museum shop.
Members provide crucial support for the ongoing preservation and restoration of the historic buildings on the museum campus and allow the museum to offer a variety of free programs, events, and exhibits. Annual membership starts at $25 for individuals and $35 for families.
