“A Painter’s Mask” an exhibition of paintings by Steven Tritt of Sycamore, Illinois, will be on display at THE ART BOX, 308 East Lincoln Highway in downtown DeKalb, Illinois from April 10 – May 12, 2017. An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, May 9th from 2 to 5 pm.
“Oscar Wilde wrote, ‘Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.’ Masks are mysterious; while they appear to conceal they are really a tool to reveal. They are a metaphor for artists, who through the art-making process, unveil a unique visual language.

Steven Tritt is a Northern Illinois University alumnus with a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting, 1990. Influential professors at NIU were Gordon Dorn, David Driesbach and John Rooney. Tritt’s paintings have been on display in many juried shows, not only in northern Illinois, but also in California. One aspect that came from his experience with showing at the Inspiration Corporation in Chicago was meeting Chicago Pop Artist, Peter Mars, who has provided guidance into what the life of a professional artist is like and has developed into a major supporter of Tritt’s work. Mars’ painting has in turn become influential on Tritt. To see more of Tritt’s art, logon to and
