Parents need you to get out of the house? The library needs volunteers! Most teens need service hours to graduate. Sign up to be a Volunteen. Our teen volunteers are so helpful to the library. Over the summer, we schedule weekly hours during which teens and their friends can volunteer together. To become a DeKalb Public Library “Volunteen,” you will need to fill out a volunteer application and get your parent’s signature. We are offering a Volunteen Orientation to show teens around the library and give them an idea of the tasks with which they may be helping.
Here are some highlights of becoming a Volunteen:
You help out the library you know and love! What do Volunteens do? You will learn how to clean books and edge books, help get ready for programs, pick books for displays, and assist during large programs
You can work in groups with your friends, this is not a silent activity, although library rules apply.
Upon request you will receive a letter for your school notifying them of service hours completed. Do a good job Susan will be able to write you a recommendation for a job and/or a college application.
Every four hours which you volunteer you will receive an entry to our drawing to win summer reading prizes!
This program is intended for grades 6-12.
